DLSA Gbl visits Subsidiary-Jail, Dignibal Ganderbal

Holds legal awareness programme on ‘Rights & Remedies available to Prisoners’

Ganderbal, Nov 12: A Legal Awareness camp under the ongoing campaign ‘Haq humara bhi to hai @75’ was today organized by Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal, regarding ‘Rights and Remedies available to prisoners’.

In this regard, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal, Nusrat Ali Hakak along with Panel Lawyer and DLSA team visited the Subsidiary-Jail, Dignibal Ganderbal to take note of the living conditions of inmates.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary DLSA apprised the inmates regarding their basic available rights and advised them to engage themselves in activities like reading books etc in order to keep themselves mentally healthy.

Grievances of inmates were also heard and on spot instructions were passed to the officials concerned to redress the problems of jail inmates, besides organize medical check-ups regularly and to provide them all available basic facilities.

Secretary DLSA had a discussion with the inmates and conducted a survey on how many prisoners are being represented by private advocates and DLSA Panel advocates, interacted with them and listened to their concerns.

Panel Lawyer, Advocate Ghulam Rasool Rather sensitized prisoners regarding the concept of Prisoners, Rights and the corresponding duties of the custodians in ensuring the protection of their rights.

The Resource Person deliberated on the importance of vigilant Judiciary to ensure that the prisoners are not subjected to inhuman conditions within the jail and their basic rights are ensured.
