DLSA Ganderbal celebrates National Legal Service Day 

Ganderbal, Nov 9: The National Legal Services Day was today observed by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal here under the guidance of Secretary DLSA Ganderbal, Tabasum.

The National Legal Services Day programme was a call to ensure reasonable fair and just procedure for all citizens. Senior Citizens, Faculty Members of CUK Ganderbal, Panel Lawyers, PLVs and students participated in the event.

The aim of celebrating the day is to ensure free of charge, proficient Legal Services to weaker sections of the society as well as to make them conscious about their rights.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal highlighted the objectives of the Legal Services Authority Act and the role of Legal Services Authorities for promoting equal opportunities of seeking justice without allowing the economic and other social conditions to operate as a hindrance.

She said that equal opportunities of seeking justice by providing free legal aid to the needy and deserving are mandated by the constitutional provisions under Articles 14 and 39A.

Thrust was also laid on objectives of Maintenance & Welfare of Senior Citizens Act 2007.

While appreciating the efforts of para legal volunteers, she also emphasized Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism as a great contribution towards dispute resolution.

Speaking on the occasion, Adv Ghulam Rasool Rather and Adv. Hilal Ahmad Ganie dealt with basic procedures to be followed in criminal and civil litigation. They emphasized on the urgency of striving for reducing the gap between the rich and poor litigants for a fair justice delivery. They said the notion of free legal aid finds its roots in the idea that no individual should have to undergo without justice.

At the end of the event, certificates were also given by Tabasum, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal to the law students who have participated in different activities during internship conducted by DLSA Ganderbal.
