Train services suspended in Kashmir

Srinagar,: Train services were suspended on Monday as a precautionary measure for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where separatists had called for a general strike on the third death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani in an encounter by security forces.
No train will operate in the Kashmir valley Monday following an advisory received from police Sunday to suspended train service for security reasons, a railway official told UNI.
He said, therefore, no train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir. Similarly, train services will remain suspended on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region, he added.
We are acting on the advice of divisional administration and police since safety and security of the passengers was necessary, he said, adding in the past railway suffered massive damages during protests and hartals.
Normally we are receiving huge rush of passengers on Monday morning when people are resuming their normal activities after Sunday.
Train service has become very popular in the valley as it is very cheap, fast and safe against other mode of transport available in the valley.
Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter by security forces on this day in Kokernag area in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. However, his killing evoked massive protests across the Kashmir valley.
