Two faculty members from IIT Ropar delivered special lecturers at NIT Srinagar

Such lectures bridge gap between society and technology: Director NIT

Srinagar, Sep 29: Srinagar, Sep 29: Two faculty members from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar delivered special lectures at National Institute of Technology (NIT) on Thursday.

Dr. Mukesh Saini, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Ropar was the eminent speaker. He delivered “AI for Monitoring in Agriculture”

While his colleague, Dr. Neeraj Goel also shared his knowledge in the field of AI/ML and its applications in Agriculture.

Director NIT Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal said such lectures are aimed to provide a vibrant platform to students.  During these sessions, path-breaking research ideas in science and technology are being discussed, he said.

“It is a proud moment for us to host eminent luminaries on the campus. It shall be an interface between academia and industries,” Prof. Sehgal said.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said these important sessions will benefit students in long way and help them to explore more options in the field of science and technology.

 “Such lectures help students to believe in themselves and empower their confidence. It is always essential for students to stay motivated and have faith in themselves,” Prof. Bukhari said.

Later both guests also interacted with CSE and IT faculty members. They were welcomed by IT Head Dr Shabir Sofi and Dr. Omkar Singh from ECE department.

 Dr. Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics coordinated the event along with Dr. Ranjeet Rout.

He said both lectures were very informative, as they not only gave information about AI but students were exposed to AI usage in agricultural monitoring systems like crop disease prediction, and quality assessment.

“It also highlighted the predictive assessments through AI/ML-based smart systems,” he said.

Dr. Kumar said around 75 students attended the lectures and gained insights about various methodologies through which various agricultural issues can be resolved using AI-based approaches.

He also welcomed the gathering and introduced the speaker.  The guest also interacted with students and faculty members.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Ranjeet Rout, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
