Pr. Secy Jal Shakti reviews progress on cleanliness of irrigation canals, removal of encroachments across Jammu Division

Jammu, July 27: Principal Secretary, Jal Shakti Department, Ashok Kumar Parmar today chaired a meeting to review the pace and progress on cleanliness of irrigation Canals as well as removals of encroachment on banks of canals across Jammu Division at Civil Secretariat here.

The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar; Municipal Commissioner, JMC, Director Finance, Jal Shakti Department, Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti (I&F/RTIC) Department, Jammu, ADC Jammu; Additional Secretary, Jal Shakti Department; Superintending Engineers of Hydraulic Circle, RTIC Department Jammu and others concerned officials.

Chairing the meeting, the Principal Secretary directed the concerned officers to remove all encroachments on drains, canals and rivers to ensure the free flow of rainwater during monsoon. He impressed upon the officers of JMC to start cleanliness drive within municipal areas near water bodies so that the dumped garbage and other related polluting things are cleaned from the water bodies.

The Principal Secretary further asked the officers of district administration to identify the encroachments near water bodies and canals and take immediate steps for removal of the same.

Speaking during the meeting, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu asked the concerned officers to launch one month awareness drive to inform the people not to pollute the canals, water bodies and also to not dump the garbage alongside the canals.

Officers of Jal Shakti Department informed the meeting that various sites of main canals were cleaned and the repair works are going on smoothly and are near completion.
