A Twilight With Brave Hearts At Drass

Kargil, July 26: The year 2022 marks the 23rd anniversary of Operation Vijay, known more commonly as the Kargil War. This milestone is being celebrated with appropriate military decorum, alongwith the community members who also played an important role in evicting the intruders from the icy heights of Kargil.

Post the Homage Ceremony at Kargil War Memorial, Drass, a special evening with the gallantry award winners, and the next of kin of those who made the supreme sacrifice during the war and soldiers of Indian Army was organised at Syed Auditorium Hall, Kargil.

The evening commenced with a performance by Joi Barua, who enthralled the audience with his rendition of patriotic songs. The highlight of his performance was the release of ‘Kargil Song’ written in memory of our bravehearts. It was followed by mesmerising songs by Ameya Dabli, lead singer and founder of Ekam Satt Academy along with his team.

In the run-up to the celebrations at Dras, a number of adventure activities were also conducted. Mrs Suneeta Dwivedi, the Regional President, Army Wives Welfare Association, Northern Command felicitated the members of various expeditions including Ms Bachendri Pal, Padma Bhushan, leader of Fit @ 50+ team, Sufiya Khan, who ran the ultra-marathon from Siachen Base Camp till Kargil War Memorial, Major Srishti Sharma and Squadron Leader Maneka Kumari, who led the Joint Services Bicycle Rally from National War Memorial to Kargil War Memorial, Joi Barua and Ameya Dabli.

The Gallantry Award winners of the Kargil War and the Next of Kins of the bravehearts were honoured and felicitated by Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, AVSM, GOC-in-C, Northern Command.The evening culminated with the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas Bhoj’ (Bara Khana) for all present.
