DC Kupwara visits Pothwari Nowgam, reviews situation arisen due to incessant rains

Kupwara, June 22: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir today directed concerned officers and field staff to play proactive role in resolving the public issues in view of incessant rains and inclement weather.

Deputy Commissioner gave this direction during his visit to various areas of Handwara sub division including Langate to review the situation arisen due to incessant rains.

The Deputy Commissioner also convened a meeting of officers at ADC Office Handwara and took stock of the situation.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by ADC Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir; DDC Mawar, Khurshid Ahmad Dar, BDC Chairperson and other concerned officers and engineers.

The Deputy Commissioner said that all possible long and short term measure would be taken by the Administration to provide protection bunds on Nallah Mawar to avoid any erosion of land or loss of property. He gave on spot direction to concerned engineers and Beacon authorities to ensure widening and desilting of the Nallah and construct culvert wherever required. He said weather vagaries have affected the Nallahs and other water bodies but the situation across the district is normal. He said there is no report of any loss of life in the district. He advised people residing near Nallahs not to venture out till the weather improves.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner visited flash flooded habitation at Pothwari Nowgam and directions were passed to reconstruct the choked culvert on Nowgam-Bangus road keeping in view the quantum of maximum discharge of water to avoid such incidence in future. Besides, directions were passed to I&FC department to deepen/widen the seasonal nallah.

Some locals projected their demands of crate bunds and construction of drainage for which onspot directions were passed to RDD department.

The locals of Nowgam-A projected that the Mawar nallah has changed its course due to which Health Instituion and Army Goodwill School Nowgam are likely to get damaged.

The DC directed the I&FC department for dredging on immediate basis. The DC also inspected the damaged bridge and school building at Check-i-Lawoosa. He directed CEO Kupwara to incorporate the school building in any scheme for its renovation.

On the demand of locals at Khudi, the Deputy Commissioner directed Executive Engineer R&B Handwara and took up the matter with Chief Engineer over phone for road construction along with 2 bridges to loop the Khudi-Pothwari area from right bank to left bank.

The Deputy Commissioner also visited PHC Qalamabad and inspected various sections of hospital including OPD, IPD, Dental and various wards. He directed concern Medical Officer to make awareness among the public about the facilities being provided in the hospital and ensure deliveries be performed in the hospital to facilitate the poor people of the area. He also inspected the water logging in back side of the hospital and directed Executive Engineer R&B for clearing the water logging in the hospital area.

Deputy Commissioner also inspected Nayabat Office Qalamabad and directed ACD Kupwara to develop the compound of the Nayabat office. He also visited ITI Handwara and inspected ongoing classes, took review regarding the ongoing skill development initiatives and passed directions to impart and equip the trainees with the latest programmes effectively. Besides, directions were passed to Executive Engineer R&B Handwara to expedite the process of Administrative approval of path, renovation of the building.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner met various deputations and resolved their issues by directing concerned officers for doing the needful.

Meanwhile, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, ADC Kupwara, Ghulam Nabi Bhat, SDM Sogam, Tehsildars, officers from I&FC and other departments visited their respective jurisdictions and reviewed the situation caused due to inclement weather.

ADC Kupwara inspected the areas of Kupwara, Bohipora, Trehgam, Kralpora and upper areas of Chowkibal and found situation normal. Likewise, SDM Sogam visited areas including Lalpora, Khurhama, Warnow, Dardpora, Gundmachar and observed that the situation is normal in the area.(
