Srinagar-Jammu, Mughal road closed for vehicular traffic due to landslides

Srinagar, June 22 : Srinagar-Jammu national highway and historical Mughal road remained closed for the second consecutive day on Wednesday following shooting of stones, landslides and washing away of a road stretch.

A traffic police official said Srinagar National highway remained closed for the second consecutive day on Wednesday due to shooting stones at several places including at Panthyal.

A road stretch of about 150 feet at Toldi Nallaha, 16 km way from Udhampur also washed away due to incessant rains on the highway. Many sophisticated machines involved in road work were also washed away in the Tawi River. It has also minimized the chances of road opening today, they said. However, there was no report of loss of life.

“Due to heavy rainfall on the whole highway and shooting stones at Panthyal and other locations approximately 3000 vehicles both HMVs and LMVs are stranded on the Highway,” a traffic department official said.

The historical Mughal road connecting Shopian district in south Kashmir to Poonch in Jammu division also closed for vehicular traffic due to landslides.

However, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road connecting Ladakh is through for vehicular movement, police said.

“Jammu-Srinagar NHW (including Doda-Kishtwar, Patni Top), Mughal road still blocked and Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road connecting Ladakh is through for vehicular movement”, a police tweet said.

Bandipora-gurez road in north Kashmir was also closed for vehicular traffic following fresh snowfall.
