Pak PM Imran says Parliament biggest platform for accountability

Islamabad, Aug 27: Prime Minister Imran Khan emphasised on austerity measures for effective governance in his first speech to the Senate on Monday.

The prime minister said that he will keep on attending the Senate sessions, adding that the biggest platform for accountability is the Parliament.

“The rulers should let the public know that our tax money is not for a luxurious lifestyle, it is for the people,” he said.

The prime minister also said that the rulers should cut their expenses, adding that all the ministers should lead by example in this regard.

He further said that the foreign tours will be done when the state of affairs within Pakistan has improved.

A framework will be made for investment by overseas Pakistanis and the plan will be unveiled in a week, said the PM.

Earlier, the Senate adopted a unanimous resolution against a blasphemous caricature competition in the Netherlands.

After passing of the resolution, Imran Khan addressed the upper House of Parliament.

Imran said that very few Europeans understand the hurting of Muslim sentiments over blasphemous content.

The prime minister said he understands the European mindset and they do not understand the love Muslims have for the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Imran further said that his government will prioritise the issue and take it up with the global Muslim body, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

He said that a session of the OIC should be held to discuss the matter of blasphemous caricature competition.
