TEDx NIT Srinagar organizes State-level competition for college students

Such events are important for all-around development, mega-event to be held on Saturday: Director

Srinagar, May 24: TEDx National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Tuesday organized the State-level 2 Mini TEDx for college students, and around 150 students participated in the mega event.

The participating students were selected after being the winners of the Phase 1 Mini TEDx competitions taking place at their respective colleges.

The event was presided over by Director NIT Srinagar; Prof. Rakesh Sehgal said such events inspire the students to accelerate in their careers and are important for all-round development.

“Life is challenging for so many, there are hurdles everywhere and to overcome them, there is a need for motivation,” he said.

Prof. Sehgal congratulated the students for winning Phase 1 of the Mini TEDx competitions and being selected for the Phase 2 competition.

He also appreciated the Head Training & Placement Department, Dr. Obbu Chandra, and his entire team for making the event a grand success.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said motivational talks help students to believe in themselves and empower their confidence. It is always essential for students to stay motivated and have faith in themselves, he said.

Prof. Bukhari said the main goal of the event is to bring together leading thinkers and achievers to share ideas that matter from varied disciplines and cultures. It was aimed at creating meaningful conversations and intellectual exchanges, he said.

In this elocution competition, the participants from different colleges delivered their own TED talks in regard to the theme, “Interpreting the Future”.

Dr. Nufazil Altaf, Dr. Mohammad Rafiq, and Dr. Nasir Butt from the Department of Humanities, Social Science and Management were jury members for the competition.

Head, Department of Training and Placements, Dr. Obbu Chandrasekhar, who is also the Faculty Coordinator of TEDxNITSrinagar also addressed the gathering.

He presented his gratitude to the NIT Srinagar administration for their continuous support and encouragement in organizing the event.

Dr. Obbu also informed that TEDxNITSrinagar will be organizing a mega event at NIT Srinagar on 28th May 2022, where eminent personalities from various fields will combine to spark deep discussions and connections.

He expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, and Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari for taking out time from their busy schedules to grace the event with their presence and words.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Mohammad Rafiq, Associate TPO, NIT Srinagar.

In his remarks, he congratulated all the participants for reaching Phase 2 of Mini TEDx.  Dr. Rafiq also talked about this event being on course to be one of the biggest events in the valley.

A formal vote of thanks was presented at the end by Syed Aga Hadi Riza, Curator, TEDxNITSrinagar.  This event was a great success and fulfilled the main aim of providing a stage to the students across the valley.

The competition was followed by the felicitation ceremony for all the winners of the Phase 2 Mini TEDx competitions for both school and college-level students.

The top 50 winners from among thousands of students, who participated over the course of Phase 1 and Phase 2 Mini TEDx competitions, will now be invited to attend the main event of TEDxNITSrinagar on 28th May 2022.
