Kathua rape case: Former CM Mehbooba welcomes court judgement

Srinagar,:  Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday welcomed the Pathankote court judgement on Kathua rape and murder case of a 8-year-old girl in January last year.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba said “Welcome the judgement. High time we stop playing politics over a heinous crime where an 8-year-old child was drugged, raped repeatedly & then bludgeoned to death. Hope loopholes in our judicial system are not exploited & culprits get exemplary punishment.”
Mehbooba was heading coalition government with Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) when the incident took place.
Two BJP minister had to resign after they participated in a rally in favour of the accused in the rape and murder case.
Despite massive pressure from some of the BJP leaders and accused, Mehbooba refused to hand over the case to CBI.
Later, on the direction of Supreme court the case was shifted to Pathankote from Kathua after family of the victims alleged that they were receiving threats.
