Asthana bribery case: Delhi HC grants four more months to CBI to probe case

New Delhi, : Delhi High Court on Friday granted four more months to the CBI to complete Investigation in a bribery case involving former special director of CBI Rakesh Asthana.
CBI DSP Devender Kumar, earlier Investigating Officer in a case involving meat exporter Moin Quereshi, was arrested on the allegations of forgery in recording the statement of Sathish Babu Sana, a Hyderabad based businessman who had allegedly paid bribe to get relief in the case. He was arrested on October 22, 2018 and granted bail on October 31.
In this matter Asthana was booked on the allegations of criminal conspiracy, corruption and criminal misconduct defined under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Delhi High Court on January 11 this year, after hearing the plea of CBI, granted ten weeks to the Investigating Agency to complete its investigation. Now again after completion of the stipulated time, the CBI had approached the court seeking further time.
Today, after hearing both sides, Justice Gupta granted further time to CBI to complete its investigation in the case lodged against Asthana, DSP Kumar and Middleman Manoj Prasad.
