SKIMS Conducts Awareness Program on Fire & Safety in hospitals

Srinagar, April 19 : Department of Hospital Administration SKIMS in coordination  with Fire and Emergency Services UT J&K  today conducted a day long program. The program was aimed to create wide awareness about fire safety measures in hospitals.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Prof. Farooq A Jan while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of fire  safety measures in hospitals. With reference to SKIMS  he said SKIMS has a vibrant Fire safety system in place. The training is regularly imparted to dedicated staff and mock drills are frequently conducted. He also stressed for a smart detection system to avoid any eventuality. “He further said that many such  programs at large scale need to be conducted with participation of all stakeholders

Nodal Officer Fire  Safety SKIMS Dr Samina Mufti  gave a detailed presentation on fire safety and its prevention  in hospitals. She elaborated that all hospitals must incorporate Fire  Safety system in its DPR’s for a fool proof system. She further said that recent major fire incident at Bone & Joint hospital underlines that fire incidents are unavoidable and every effort should be made on prevention of such incidents.

Divisional Head Fire & Emergency Services J&K  Mr. Tassaduq Ahmad & Assistant Director Fire & Emergency Services Mr. Aqib Ahmad Mir also spoke on the occasion and emphasised on proactive fire fighting mechanism in hospitals for fire  detection, protection and  prevention. They also listed in detail the measures taken incase of any eventuality and said any system should be prepared and trained in advance. The program was participated by all sectional heads and staff from SKIMS Security Services.

It is pertinent to mention that from 14th April to 22 April every year Fire  Safety  awareness week is celebrated. During the week SKIMS administration conducted many training programs and drills among all cadres of the hospital.
