Education is the key to empowerment:Dr. Kamlesh Meena

The mission of Indira Gandhi National Open University is to enlighten every citizen with the light of education

Srinagar, April 16: Education is the primary source of empowerment, Dr. Kamlesh Meena, Director, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre, Srinagar.

Dr. Meena said that it was the position and mission of the university to enlighten every citizen with the light of education. In an exclusive interview with Multimedia Group, Dr. Kamlesh Meena said that the University’s Regional Centre Srinagar is providing educational services in 10 districts of Kashmir Valley and two districts of Ladakh UT. A Centre has also been set up in almost every college to enlighten the youth. He said that the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been given the mandate to enlighten the youth through higher education.

Dr. Meena said that the role of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar in the Kashmir Valley is very important. But offline classes are not held in educational institutions In response to a question, Dr. Kamlesh, said that the university offers students under two sessions. Anyone who wants to get an education can get admission in January and July.

He also said that in the two sessions of the year 2021-22, 53 thousand students have got admission to the university, which is a history.

He further adds that it was the mission and priority of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to make education accessible to all people. He said that the mission of the university is to empower the people with the light of education, because only through education can empowerment be ensured.  “From  Officer or Principal Secretary to Auto Rickshaw Driver, everyone is equal. This is the specialty of this university. There is no age for getting an education. Anyone who wants to get an education can and has taken admission.”

Meena said that every effort is being made to improve educational services. The University has a total number of 253  level programs. While 194 programs are active in Kashmir Valley. Dr. Meena who is also pursuing Ph.d in journalism said that the university has launched several programs for professional development of journalism, including Masters, PG, etc. He was asked about the quality of the university, Dr. Kamlesh Meena said, “IGNOU is in A ++ grade while IGNOU is the number one non-technical institution. IGNOU is a brand in itself.”
