Hridesh inaugurates modern infra for SMG

Jammu, Mar 28: Commissioner Secretary, Transport, Hirdesh Kumar, today inaugurated modern infrastructure here at the workshop of State Motor Garages (SMG) for speedy and quality maintenance of vehicles of the department.

He said that this up gradation of infrastructure will be immensely helpful towards ensuring quality and timely repair of departmental vehicles. He maintained that such a kind of modern machinery would tremendously increase the longevity of our movable assets like cars and other government vehicles.

Commissioner Secretary appreciated the department for installation of all these modern gadgets. He stated that this move is not only going to provide quality service but will also reduce human labour, earlier required for accomplishing such tasks.

He asked the department to emulate all such technologies available in private sector so that we may not have to move to other workshops for availing such services outside our workshops.

Director, SMG, Malik Tahir Gani, presented a brief about all the facilities being made available by the department. He informed that the new machines installed by the department are state of the art technologies with all the modern advancements in the automobile sector.

It was further apprised that the new machines installed in the workshop included wheel alignment, wheel balancing, hydraulic lifts, exhaust gas analyser and foam car wash system.

Earlier, Commissioner Secretary inaugurated installation of Fast-Tags on the SMG vehicles which would ensure hassle-free passage of vehicles at toll plazas on National Highways besides ensuring transparency in the transactions being made while paying the toll there. The move has been initiated in collaboration with J&K Bank as a technological partner in this endeavour.

Others present on the occasion included Sumit Kumar, President J&K Bank (Jammu Division); Additional Secretary, Transport Department; Deputy Director, SMG and officers and officials from the bank and the concerned departments.
