Comm Secy RDD inaugurates 5- Day Training program on implementation of SBM (G) phase -II

Jammu, Mar 28: Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development Department (RDD) & Panchayati Raj, Mandeep Kaur today inaugurated five-days training programme of Trainers (ToT) on Implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin, Phase-II in at the Panchayat Bhawan, Railway Road, Jammu today.

The training programme is being organized by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, J&K in collaboration with UNICEF, Development partners with Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. UNICEF-PRI Move, Pune is providing technical support through capacity building and hand holding.

Speaking on the occasion, Mandeep Kaur said that the work under second phase of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) is going to be more intense as it involves community participation at Gram panchayat level. She said that this phase involves more activities on themes like Solid Waste Management, Liquid Waste Management, Faecal Sludge management, Plastic waste Management, Grey Water Management etc.

The Commissioner Secretary asked the trainers to make sure that the training sessions lead to on ground action and implementation with all the hand holding to the present batch. She also called for greater involvement of PRIs to make this phase a people’s movement and play an active role in implementation of SBM-G Phase-II which aims at sustaining the open defecation free (ODF) status of villages and improve the overall  cleanliness in rural areas through implementation of Solid Liquid waste management activities.

Mandeep Kaur asked panchayats to identify and prioritize goals for their respective panchayats which they need to accomplish after completion of this training programme. She added that another batch would be trained in Kashmir next week.

Director, Rural Sanitation, S. Charandeep Singh informed that the objective of this training programme is to develop conceptual understanding on the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) guidelines, to create awareness on community led interventions for planning, implementation and monitoring of various components of this Mission and to demonstrate community-led processes and technological interventions of SLWM components at village level. He added that this five day training programme also includes a one day field visit for practical demonstration.

Director, Rural Sanitation also issued directions to assess the ground requirements of SLWM models as per the needs of particular villages during field visit as one model fit for all could not be the solution.

Laximikant Shinde (Lead Trainer), Pravin Kamble (Community Mobilizer), Sachidanand Singh (Social Expert), Akash Gaikwad (SLWM Engineer) are among the UNICEF-PRI Move team who will be imparting Capacity building training and conducting field visits.

Deputy Director, Rural Sanitation Jammu, Maxiumn Gorkie and other officials of the department were also present on the occasion.
