Srinagar, Mar 16: Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi appointed as Chairperson of J&K Waqf Board formally by the election from the newly appointed Waqf Body.

“Waqf in J&K will see huge reforms in the days to come. A very able team of dynamic & visionary members is a big hope”: Dr Andrabi

The first meeting of newly nominated J&K Waqf body was held today afternoon at Haj House in Jammu in which all the members appointed by Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India & the Chief Executive Officer & Adminstrator of J&K Waqf Board participated.

Newly appointed members of J&K Waqf Board Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem, Suhail Kazmi, Syed Mohammad Hussain and Nawab Din (JKAS) took part. The members unanimously nominated Dr Darakhshan Andrabi as the Chairperson of the Board which has been constituted for a five year term under the Central Waqf Act of 1995. Dr Darakhshan Andrabi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Lt Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha for having trust in her and giving her this pivotal responsibility in J&K.

She thanked Honourable Members of the Board for electing her as the Chairperson of J&K Waqf Board. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Andrabi said that she was fortunate to have such luminaries as Honourable Members in the Waqf and the credentials of the Waqf Board representatives are enough to assure the public about honest and transparent working of the Board.

In reply to media after a long indoor meeting with the Members & the Waqf Management, newly appointed Chairperson of J&K Waqf Dr Andrabi said that their task is very challenging as a new honest, accountable work-culture with the spirit of service needs to be inculcated in J&K Waqf which has been turned into a dejection over past more than seven decades by the ruling families. “Huge assets, properties and important shrines are haphazardly managed leaving no lesser scope for turning them into profitable places so that development and Infrastructural expansion is undertaken. It is a challenging task which is also the prime priority of new Waqf Body,”said Dr Andrabi.

She said that we assure the people of J&K that new body will try to revolutionize the management of Waqf in J&K. Newly appointed members of J&K Waqf Board Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem, Suhail Kazmi & Syed Mohammad Hussain also spoke to the press and outlined the mission of making Waqf not only self-sufficient but also profitable so that all needed infrastructural and managemental reforms are done.
