NASVI and Tourism Department Organizes Ration distribution

Srinagar, Mar 16: National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) with the support of the Department of Tourism J&K  and National Welfare Forum conducted  a  ration distribution campaign within the premises of the Tourism Department here today.


National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) is a network and advocacy platform of 623 street vendor organizations, trade unions and community based groups across 25 states of India. It gives voice and visibility to the street vendors, brings their issues of livelihood, social security and human rights to the forefront and engages with National and state governments as well as municipal bodies for protection of their rights and entitlements through policy and legislative instruments and good governance.

NASVI is geared up to support the vendors of Srinagar, to help them tide over the repercussions triggered by the ongoing covid pandemic. This is the second  Phase of the distribution conducted by NASVI and National Welfare Forum  by distributing 1000 Ration kits to the street vendors in a span of one week .The Deputy Director Tourism registration  Kashmir Dr Ilyas, Zeeshan Ahmad Assistant Director Tourism  and  Rouf  Tramboo were also present during the distribution drive.

Declaring today’s ration distribution camp as just the beginning of NASVI’s focused intervention for the welfare of the street vendors of Srinagar, National Coordinator  Arbind Singh while briefing the media  said  that NASVI is willing to aid the vendors and their families in other aspects of their life . He said that our Endeavour is to  provide  them economic, legal and entrepreneurial support by creating new business ventures in the form of food hubs and markets by coordinating  with the concerned authorities on the behalf of the vendors. Recognizing the important role played by the vendors in the upliftment of  Kashmir’s economy, Mr. Singh believes that a concerted effort to support the vendors of Srinagar can provide the much needed boost to the overall economy. The Head of Street Food Program of NASVI – Ms. Sangeeta Singh was also present at the occasion.
