Mamata’s morphed photo case: SC grants conditional bail to BJYM leader

New Delhi, :  The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Priyanka Sharma for posting objectionable pictures of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on social media.
The Top Court also directed her to tender a written apology.
A vacation bench, headed by Justice Indira Banerjee, passed the interim direction after hearing Ms Sharma’s plea seeking relief in the case.
“We grant conditional bail to her,” Justice Banerjee said and fixed the matter for further hearing after two weeks.
The BJYM leader was arrested on May 10 by the West Bengal police and sent to judicial custody for allegedly posting Ms Banerjee’s morphed photo on Priyanka Chopra’s image from the MET Gala event in New York on Facebook.
The arrest attracted media attention and was followed by protests from the BJP faction and other social media users.
