Kishtwar: Army hosts Interaction, awareness event to celebrate Int’l Women’s Day

Kishtwar, Mar 9: On the eve of the International Women’s Day, Indian Army organised an Interaction and awareness forum for celebrating the event.

The aim of organizing the event was to educate them  about various schemes and avenues available for the women.

The platform showcased the achievements of prominent and successful women of the region to be followed and emulated. The programme proceedings included speeches by prominent women from various professions. Prominent medical practitioner Dr Aruna Manhas spoke at length on various health and hygiene issues of women. She also stressed on the importance of regular medical checkups, proper diet to remain fit.

Ruhi Sharma, rep of District Social Welfare Office, in her speech deliberated upon various Schemes and Programmes launched  by Central and UT Governments from time to time such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Working Women Hostel, One Stop Center, Women Helpline, Mahila E-Haath, Mahila Police Volunteers, STEP (Support to Training and Empowerment Program for Women), NIRBHAYA, MSK (Mahila Shakti Kendras), UJJAWALA scheme for the upliftment and overall development of women.

Advocate Anjali Chauhan spoke about the rights of Women and highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day. She emphasised on women force coming together for the betterment of the gender to promote women empowerment and safeguard their rights. The Army also reaffirmed its commitment towards fostering peace and empowering women of the region. The attendees were assured all assistance by the Indian Army to have access to opportunities and resources.

The locals lauded the efforts of the Indian Army for organizing such an event exclusively for the women of the region as the people are now slowly and steadily coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic scare. The conduct of such events will go a long way in further strengthening the existing bond between the Awaam and the Army in the region.
