NABARD celebrates International Women’s Day 2022 in Samba

Jammu, Mar 8: NABARD, Jammu Regional Office celebrated International Women’s Day at district Samba.

Yasha Mudgal, Secretary Cooperative Department, Jammu was Chief Guest, while Dr. Ajay Kumar Sood, Chief General Manager, NABARD, UT of J&K, Dr. Parul Jasrotia, President, WICCI Rural Tourism Council and  Swarna Bhagat, Chairperson Women Credit Cooperative Ltd. were special guests on the occasion.

To commemorate this day, NABARD sponsored women Self Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), Farmers Producers Organisation (FPO) members, successful women farmers, women entrepreneurs and social workers were invited for felicitation and sharing their experiences. Products manufactured by members of SHGs and FPOs promoted by NABARD were also put up for display in stalls.

On the occasion, the Secretary, Cooperative Department, inaugurated a Demonstration Unit cum Common Facility Centre for dress designing and bamboo crafts under Livelihood Enterprise Development Programme (LEDP) of NABARD.

Dr. Ajay Kumar Sood, CGM, NABARD highlighted various programmes of NABARD for welfare and economic uplift of rural women including formation of SHGs/ JLGs thereby enabling them to avail institutional credit to start their livelihood activities; providing skill development trainings to rural youth especially girls and trainings under skill/ livelihood programmes of NABARD like Micro Enterprise Development Programmes (MEDP) & Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programmes (LEDP) to enable rural women to become entrepreneurs in different fields. The participants were urged to take advantage of skill programmes of NABARD and acquire requisite skills for taking up income generating activity individually or in groups. They can also avail bank loan for starting up livelihood activity which would not only enhance their incomes but would also bring prosperity to their village, he added.

 Yasha Mudgal, Secretary, Cooperative Department, Govt. of J&K, congratulated NABARD for celebrating the day.She talked about women empowerment and self-reliance of women not only through enhancement of income but also through freedom in decision making in all spheres of life. Other participants also shared their experiences.

  Anamika, DGM, NABARD thanked everyone for participating in the event and also informed that International Women’s Day is being celebrated at Srinagar and all the districts of the UT where NABARD’s DDMs are posted. The Day will be celebrated on a larger scale next year by NABARD.
