India’s Covid-19 cases reached to 6,915,180 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India recorded 6,915 new Covid-19 cases, 180 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total death toll to 5,14,023, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday (March 1, 2022). The active cases stand at 92,472.

A decrease of 10,129 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The country also recorded 16,864 recoveries today, taking the total number of recoveries to 4,23,24,550.

The national Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 98.59 per cent.

Additionally, the cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive  have exceeded 177.70 crore. As many as 9,01,647 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours to detect the presence of the virus.

Meanwhile, India is likely to witness the fourth covid-19 wave in mid to late June, and the surge is to continue for about 4 months, as per a research conducted by IIT-K researchers. However, the severity of the wave will depend on the emergence of new variants, vaccination status, and administration of booster doses.

According to the researchers, the data indicates that the fourth wave of Covid-19 in India will arrive after 936 days from the initial data availability date, which is January 30, 2020.

“Therefore, the fourth wave starts from June 22, 2022, reaching its peak on August 23, 2022 and ends on October 24, 2022,” they said.

“Moreover, the 99% confidence interval for the date, when the curve will reach the peak, is approximately from August 15, 2022 to August 31, 2022,” the researchers added.
