RTA approves 51 route permits in Rajouri

Rajouri, Feb 22: Regional Transport Authority today issued 51 route permits for different areas of the district here at a meeting chaired by District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal.

Among the others, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohd Aslam and Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Shami Kumar were present during the meeting.

Threadbare discussion was held in the meeting with respect to the safety aspects of the commuters.

Against 60 proposals, as many as 51 permits were issued to the selected applicants with a view to minimize overloading and road accidents. The meeting also discussed 22 cases for change of routes out of which 18 were approved.

The ARTO informed that 50000 vehicles have been registered with the department so far. He also informed that the district has 307 minibuses, 655 maxi cabs  and 1000 autos three/ four wheelers.

While taking serious note of the road accidents happening in the district, the DDC asked the ARTO and Traffic Department to conduct special drives and take strict action against the violators.

The Regional Transport Authority also decided to add more vehicles in the district in future to avoid overloading and facilitate the commuters.

The DDC asked the regulating authority to ensure early plying of services on the approved route permits and maintain a close check on overloading, overcharging and irregular vehicular movement.
