Shopian Gunfight: 2 Soldiers, Militant Killed

Srinagar, Feb 19 : Two soldiers and a militant were killed in the ongoing gunfight in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

Earlier, a joint team of Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on the input generated by J&K Police in the area, officials said.

A defence ministry spokesperson based in Srinagar identified the soldiers as Santosh Yadav and Sep Chavan Romit Tanaji, both from 1 RR. The encounter at Cherbourg Zainapora ensued as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the target spot. The hiding militants had fired upon the forces, triggering off the gunfight.
