District Anantnag embraces Vigilance Awareness Fortnight

Anantnag, Feb 3: To ensure effective implementation of National Food Security Act, a vigilance awareness fortnight is being organized from 7th February to 21st February in the district.

In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla held a detailed briefing with senior district officials to make the programme a success.

The DC said that committees at District, Sub divisional and block level have been constituted. The committees will conduct social audits throughout the district aimed at including eligible beneficiaries that have been left out and weeding out ineligible beneficiaries.

Directions were issued that the list of beneficiaries should be displayed at conspicuous locations so that people can put forward their observations. Further, inspections of records of fair price shops for the last 6 months will be carried out.

Stressing on PRI involvement, the DC directed the Panchayati Raj department to hold a sensitization session with the PRIs so that they can conduct the exercise in their areas as per the vision of the fortnight. He emphasized that the PRIs will be instrumental in bringing forth discrepancies in the present allottment of quotas.

A standard performa to ensure objective evaluation will be framed at the district level. Further, people will be able to submit their grievances / remarks to the committee members as well as through online forms.

An extensive awareness campaign will be launched to spread awareness about the fortnight and to encourage people to participate in the fortnight.

The meeting was attended by ADDC, CPO, ACP, ACD, DPO, AD Food and DIO.
