Two Militant Associates Arrested in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar, Jan 17: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two militant associates in Awantipora and recovered explosive material from their possession.

A police spokesman in a statement said that besides, Police in Kulgam produced a chargesheet against a militant associate under UAPA before NIA court Anantnag.

“Based on specific input, Awantipora Police along with 42RR and CRPF have arrested two militant associates linked with proscribed outfit JeM identified as Zahid Ahmad Lone son of Gh. Rasool resident of Naristan Tral and Shakeel Ahmad Malik @Abu Dujana son of Gh Mohammad resident of Noor Pora Awantipora. Incriminating materials including explosive materials have been recovered from their possession,” said the spokesman.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested duo were working as militant associates of proscribed outfit JeM and involved in providing shelter, logistic support and transportation of arms/ammunition to the active militants in Tral and Awantiprora areas,” he said, adding that moreover, both the arrested associates were in touch with Pakistan based self styled commanders on different social media platforms and were planning to join militant ranks. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tral and further investigation has been initiated.

“Meanwhile, Police in Kulgam produced chargesheet against a militant associate identified as Suhail Ahmad in case FIR No 03/2020 of Police Station Behibagh,” he said.

“The case pertains to the incident dated 26/09/2020 when militants fired indiscriminately upon police personnel near PS Behibagh. Although, alert police personnel had effectively retaliated the militants had managed to flee from the spot with the help of the said association and under the cover of darkness. Subsequently, he was arrested by the investigating team and also recovered incriminating material including arms & ammunition from his possession,” he added.

“Based on the evidences including digital collected during the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the two militants of proscribed outfit LeT namely Amir Ahmad Mir and Amir Manzoor Ganie (both neutralized) along with the said associate were involved in the commission of the said crime,” he further added.

“Accordingly on 15/01/2022, chargesheet of the said case was produced before Hon’ble NIA Court Anantnag for judicial determination,” said the spokesman.
