Srinagar, Jan 13 : Authorities at the Srinagar Airport announced on Thursday that passengers will be allowed to enter the airport only three hours before their scheduled flight.
The move, according to airport authorities, has been taken due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.”Passengers are requested to please come to the airport only up to three hours before their flight. Entry into the airport will be given only three hours before flight from today,” Director Srinagar Airport Kuldeep Singh said.
Director Airport said this is necessary to control congestion at the airport as they want to reduce the chances of infection.
“Please cooperate with our security staff in maintaining access control at the airport,” he said.
Srinagar International airport located in Budgam district, is 12 kms from city centre and is the most heavily guarded airports in the country. Due to the security checkups the passengers usually reach the airport much before their scheduled timings.
Singh also requested passengers to please maintain social distance at the airport and also wear mask at all times
“We follow the rule of no mask no entry. There is a fine of Rs 500 if any passengers remove their mask,” he said.
Around 10,000 to 13,000 passengers travel on a daily basis from Srinagar Airport. At an average, 40 flights arrive at Srinagar Airport everyday.
