India logs 1,41,986 new Covid cases, 285 deaths

New Delhi, Jan 8:  India has recorded 1,41,986 new Covid cases and 285 deaths, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry, the total caseload rose to 3,53,68,372, while the death toll rose to 4,83,463 as 285 succumbed to the virus in past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 40,895 people have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 3,44,12,740.The recovery rate stands at 97.30 per cent.

The active caseload now stands at 4,72,169, the figures showed.As per the bulletin, a total of 3,071 cases of Omicron variant have been detected so far in the country. Maharashtra reported the highest at 876, followed by Delhi 513 and Karnataka 333.

Out of these, 1,203 people were discharged, the Ministry said.The Ministry further said, 68.84 crore tests for Covid-19 have been done so far.

India has administered 150.06 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive.
