Most parts of Kashmir witnesses the coldest night of the season, Gulmarg receives mild snowfall

Srinagar, Dec 15 : Most parts of the Kashmir valley including Srinagar and Gulmarg experienced the seasons coldest night on Tuesday even as the ski resort received only mild snowfall on Wednesday, a MeT office said.

The ski resort of Gulmarg, Affarwat and Kongdoori in North Kashmir received a fresh dose of mild snowfall on Wednesday while experiencing the season’s coldest night on Tuesday with minimum temperature plummeting to minus 8.6 degree Celsius against minus 5.6 a day ago.

However, reports reaching here from Gulmarg said the sun appeared with clear visibility and tourists were seen roaming out in the open.

Srinagar and Qazigund and Kokernag were the other places that witnessed the coldest night of the season with temperature dipping further in Srinagar to minus 3.9 degree Celsius against the minus 2.6 degree recorded on Tuesday. Likewise at Qazigund the temperature dipped to minus 4.2 degree Celsius against minus 2.6 degree Celsius recorded the previous day.

Kokernag in south Kashmir also witnessed the coldest night of the season with temperature plunging to minus 3.9 degree Celsius against the minus 2.3 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded temperatures of minus 6.4 degree Celsius against the minus 2.8 degree Celsius while the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was recorded at minus 3.8 degree Celsius against the minus 3.5 degree Celsius recorded on Tuesday.

The temperature at frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was recorded as minus 3.5 degree Celsius against the minus 4.2 degree Celsius on Sunday.

After showing an improvement the temperature against plummeted in the Union Territory of Ladakh on Wednesday and at Drass it was recorded at minus 15.2 degree Celisius against the minus 10.0 degree Celsius a further dip of above 5 degree a day before, while at Leh it was recorded as minus 12.1 degree Celsius against the minus 7.6 degree Celsius the previous day, at Kargil it was minus 10.1 degree Celsius against the minus 8.9 degree Celsius recorded the previous day, the MeT office said.
