PM stresses on ‘quality debate’ in parliament ahead of winter session

New Delhi, Nov 17; Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday stressed on “quality debate” in Parliament ahead of the winter session that begins on November 29 and batted for designated slot when “decorum must be maintained and seriousness followed without making any political slurs”.

“Our country is full of diversity. So, the traditions and arrangements of our House should be Indian in nature. Our policies, our laws should strengthen the spirit of Indianness, we must resolve for ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’,” said Modi while addressing the inaugural session of 82nd All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) virtually.

He proposed whether separate time for quality debate could be demarcated in which traditions of dignity and seriousness are followed.

“Can we reserve three-four days in a year in the House, for the public representatives, doing something special for the society? It should be the healthiest time of the House, a healthy day.

“Such debate in which traditions of dignity and seriousness are followed with no one making political slurs on anyone,” said Modi.

Modi further said the conduct of the public representatives in the House should be according to Indian values as it is their responsibility. He said young members and women should get maximum opportunities.

Conversation, discussion, solution all should be steeped in duty, he added.

The PM also emphasised on ’One Nation One Legislative Platform’, a portal which will not only give the necessary technological boost to parliamentary system, but will also work to connect all the democratic units of the country.

Stating that the next 25 years are crucial for India, Modi urged the parliamentarians to realise only one mantra – ‘duty, duty, duty’.

“In coming years, we have to take the country to new heights, achieve extraordinary goals and this can be achieved with everyone’s effort,” the Prime Minister said.

The 82nd edition of the AIPOC is being held in Shimla on Wednesday and Thursday.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur were also present on the occasion.
