Delhi govt slaps NBCC with Rs 5 lakh penalty for flouting anti-dust pollution norms

Delhi govt slaps NBCC with Rs 5 lakh penalty for flouting anti-dust pollution norms

New Delhi, Nov 12:  The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) was slapped with a penalty of Rs five lakh by Delhi Government after the Central construction agency was found flouting anti-dust pollution norms on its construction site at Karkardooma, the Department of Environment said here on Friday.

The department noted multiple violations during a surprise inspection by Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai.

“The building material was found uncovered, while anti-smog guns were also not installed at the construction site,” an official said.

The surprise inspection by the Environment department is part of phase II of the anti-dust campaign, which commenced in the national capital from November 12.

The month-long campaign, which will run till December 12, aims to control dust pollution, which is a major contributor to the deterioration of the air quality of Delhi during winters.

The Delhi government had carried a similar campaign from October 8 to November 8 earlier, wherein 450 construction sites were slapped penalties.
