Historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar closed as a precautionary measure

Srinagar, Apr 23  :  Historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar was closed for devotees as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstration on Tuesday, when Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a general strike to protest against alleged ill-treatment to Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik and other separatist leaders, businessmen and others by National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate.

All gates of the historic worship place, stronghold of chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, were closed. Security forces were seen standing guard at main gate and a bulletproof vehicle had been parked to prevent people from entering the masjid.
Large number of security force and state police personnel have been deployed in the Jamia market and around the masjid to prevent people from holding any demonstration.
However, there were no restrictions elsewhere in the downtown and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), though shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads. Private vehicles, including two-wheelers and some three-wheelers, could be seen plying on some routes.
