Covid-19: India records single-day spike with 733 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi Oct 28 (UNI): With 733 Covid-19 deaths reported in 24 hours, India has recorded a surge in single-day spike of deaths, pushing the total toll to 45,6386, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 16,156 fresh Covid-19 cases have been registered in past 24 hours.The Ministry said the recovery rate has touched 98.20 per cent as 17,095 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative tally to 3,36,14,434.

The active caseload has fallen below 2 lakh-mark and is presently at 1,60,989; which is lowest in 243 days. The active cases presently constitute 0.47 per cent of the country’s total positive cases since March 2020.

“The daily positivity rate is 1.25 per cent, which is less than 2 per cent for last 24 days, whereas weekly positivity rate is 1.19 per cent which also remains less than 2 per cent for the last 34 days now,” the Ministry reported.

Meanwhile, the testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. India has so far conducted over 60.44 crore tests across the country.

In past 24 hours, India administered over 44 lakh vaccine doses as the coverage exceeded 103.99 crore as per provisional reports till 7 am Thursday, the Ministry said.

According to the data, more than 108 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states/UTs so far through the direct state procurement category.

“More than 11.81 crore balances and unutilised Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states/UTs to be administered,” the data stated.
