Govt ready to hold dialogue with insurgents who want to surrender: Home Minister

Jammu and Kashmir has been, is and will always remain an integral part of India

New Delhi, Sep 4 (UNI) Government will hold dialogues with any insurgents who want to surrender, Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday, ahead of a peace accord being signed with organisations of the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

The Home Minister said over 3,700 insurgents have surrendered in the last two years. “Those who want to surrender, our aim is to hold dialogue with them, and bring them into the mainstream. Those who still want to remain armed, we are working on them as well,” he said addressing the 51st foundation day of the Bureau of Police Research and Development.

Representatives from all six outfits of Karbi Anglong – Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), three factions of Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT), People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK) and United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) are in Delhi and had held discussions with the Home Ministry on Friday as well.

In February this year, 1,040 militants of five militant groups of Karbi Anglong district ceremonially laid down arms at an event in Guwahati in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
