LS adjourned sine die, 2 days before scheduled end of Monsoon Session

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Lok Sabha was on Wednesday adjourned sine die, two days before the scheduled end of the Monsoon Session.

Since the start of the session, Opposition members have been protesting over various issues, including the Pegasus snooping row and new farm laws.

The session started on July 19 and was originally scheduled to end on August 13.As soon as the House assembled at 1100 hrs today, Speaker Om Birla read out the obituary

references of four former members who passed away recently.The Speaker condoled the death of former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh, who was also a former member of Lok Sabha and an ex-Cabinet minister at the Centre.

Birla also condoled the passing away of three former members of Lok Sabha – Nityananda Misra, Prof Gopalrao Mayekar and Sudarsan Ray Chaudhuri.

A brief silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Before adjourning the House sine die, Birla gave an account of work done in Lok Sabha during the session.

He said only 17 sittings were held in this session due to the deadlock and only 21 hours 24 minutes of business could be done, which is only 22 per cent of the total scheduled duration.

The Speaker said due to the uproar by the members, the work was disrupted for 74 hours 46 minutes.

After giving the account of the work done, Birla adjourned the House sine die.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Cabinet ministers and

Congress president Sonia Gandhi were among others present in the House.
