India reports 28,204 COVID-19 cases, 373 deaths in 24 hrs

New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) India reported 28,204 new Coronavirus infections and 373 deaths in the past 24 hours, the lowest since March 16, Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

With this, the overall tally has spiked to 3,19,98,158 and death toll to 4,28,682. The number of per day deaths linked to Covid-19 complications has also dropped below 400.

The number of active Covid-19 cases in the country also dropped to 3,88,508, the lowest in 139 days. A decrease of 13,680 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload during the same time frame.

The national Covid-19 recovery rate has also improved to 97.45per cent, which is the highest ever recovery rate achieved, the Health Ministry said.

On the vaccination front, more than 52,56,35,710 vaccine doses have been provided to states/UTs. Of this, the total consumption, including wastages, is 51,09,58,562 doses, as per the data available at 0800 hrs today.

Globally, India comes second in terms of the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, following the United States with more than 35.69 million patients.

The World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11, 2020. To date, more than 201.69 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 4.27 million fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
