Members in Well shouting slogans suspended for day, Rajya Sabha adjourned till 1400 hrs

New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday suspended some Opposition Members for the day for raising slogans in the Well, holding placards and insisting for a discussion on the Pegasus issue.

“Whoever is in the Well and disobeying the Chair and raising these placards they are all asked to leave the House under Rule 255. You know, if you disobey this, what will happen, I don’t need to tell,” warned the Chairman amid loud sloganeering.

Before the directive, Naidu repeatedly asked the concerned members to go back to their seats or they will face suspension for the day.

“This is not the way. This is not the way. Please go back to your seats. .. please go back to your seats, please go back to your seats. All these members who are in the Well of the House with placards, all of them are named. Under rule 255, I direct these members who are in the Well of the House to go back to their seats otherwise you are named and you are suspended for the day,” the Chairman said.

But the repeated warnings fell on the deaf ears of the members who continued to protest saying, “Discuss Pegasus.”

Before the commotion began, Jawhar Sircar took oath as a House Member and several reports were laid on the table.

After tabling of various reports and statements by the Ministers, Mr Naidu informed members about the decision of the Business Advisory Committee about allocation of time for various Bills.

He also said that there is agreement about discussion on farmer agitation, price rise and prevailing economic situation in the country.
