Rajya Sabha congratulates PV Sindhu for bronze medal in Olympics

New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday congratulated shuttler P V Sindhu for winning the bronze medal in the women’s singles category in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

Wishing success in her future endeavors, Mr Naidu said that Sindhu had scripted history with her spectacular performance. He noted that the shuttler is the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals in successive editions.

“This feat of Sindhu highlights the consistency at international level that is expected of our sportspersons in the international arena,” he said noting that he has known Sindhu and her family personally.

Mr Naidu added that he had been witness to Sindhu’s hard work, perseverance and sheer dedication.

Following the congratulatory messages and tabling of various reports in the House as given in the Business List for the day, some of the Opposition members started protesting leading to disruption in proceedings.

Subsequently, the Chairman adjourned the House till 12 PM.

After the House reconvened at 12 noon, protests and sloganeering continued. The House, however, continued with Question Hour amid din.
