ED attaches properties worth 4.70 Cr in illegal mining case under PMLA

New Delhi, Apr 5 : Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached 45 immovable properties of Mohammad Ibrahim Sait and others in Madurai District valued at around Rs 4.70 crore under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), an official release said here on Friday.
The attached property are located at Keelavalavu, Thiruvathavur, Thumbaipatti, Pudusukkampatti, Soorakundu villages of Melur in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu.
The central financial probe agency move comes after the registration of FIRs by State Police and subsequent filing of charge-sheet against Mohamad Ibrahim Sait and other for illegal mining of granite.
“He was charged with illegally trespassing into Government unapproved rocky land, illegally using explosives endangering human lives, illegally using heavy vehicles, digging and taking granite stones from deep ditch endangering human lives from Government unapproved rocky land which was not licensed to him and from land licensed to him by not paying the license fees, thereby causing loss of revenue to the government”, the probe agency said.
“He had gained by indulging in such illegal quarrying of granite stones and, from part of such proceeds of crime has bought several immovable properties in his and his family members’ names projecting the same as untainted properties”, the ED officials revealed.
