Sopore Encounter: Two unidentified militants killed

Sopore, May 4, : Two unidentified militants have been killed in Nathipora area of Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Earlier in the day, a search operation was launched by Combined Forces in the village after inputs about the presence of militants.

Para-military troopers from 179 Battalion, soldiers from 22 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group personnel cordoned off Nathipora village of Sopore.

Sources told KNT that as the search party came closer to the house in which militants were present, they opened fire, thus ensuing an encounter.

During the intermittent firing, two militants as per a police official were killed.

Jammu Kashmir Police confirmed the death of two militants in the encounter through a tweet.

Police tweeted that 2 militants have been killed in the encounter while further details about the gunfight will follow.

Earlier police said that one foreign militant involved in killing of two Councillors and a policeman, is trapped in the village.

The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained. (KNT)
