COVID-19: India reports nearly 60k new cases, biggest jump in five months

New Delhi, Mar 26 (UNI) India on Friday recorded a whopping 59,118 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,18,46,652.

The country witnessed 257 deaths, mounting the death toll to 1,60,949, as per the Union health ministry update on Friday morning.

The active cases rose by 25,874 to stand at 4,21,066. It is now 3.55 per cent of the total caseload.

The past 24 hours saw 32,987 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,12,64,637, which is 95.09 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.36 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 23,86,04,638 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 11,00,756 were tested in the past one day.

On the vaccination front, a total of 5,55,04,440 vaccine doses have been administered, with 23,58,731 vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
