Restore cancelled ration cards soon to prevent hunger deaths: RJD

New Delhi, Mar 22 :  RJD Member Manoj Kumar Jha on Monday called for restoration of cancelled ration cards across the nation to enable the implementation of the provisions of Food Security Act.

Speaking on this issue during ‘Zero Hour’, he said that around three to four crore ration cards were cancelled but all these were not fake. Most of them were from the rural areas and due to lack of proper internet connectivity and some issues with iris recognition in the biometric, he added.

“Many reports have surfaced about the hunger deaths because the people in rural and tribal areas were not able to take their rations from the Public Distribution System(PDS) and the hunger death in the country will dent the image of India”, Mr Jha said, adding that these should be restored immediately.

BJD lawmaker Sashmit Patra while speaking in Odiya, demanded the purchase of 30 tons of rice from Odisha and urged the Government to direct Food Corporation of India in this regard while nominated Member Narendra Jadhav raised concern at the recent cyber attack on the Mumbai power grid and asked the concerned agency to prevent these attacks.

He also said that similar kind of cyber attack was made on the Serum India lab in Pune, hence, the government needs to strengthen the cyber security mechanism.
