Srinagar Police Attaches Assets Worth Over ₹13.43 Crore In NDPS Crackdown

Srinagar, Oct 15: Srinagar Police has frozen or attached residential properties and a vehicle collectively valued at more than ₹13.43 crore under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as part of a crackdown on assets allegedly acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking.

The action was carried out by six police stations—Khanyar, Pantha Chowk, Shalteng, Safakadal, Soura and Ahmadnagar—across different police subdivisions of Srinagar. Police said the properties were identified during financial investigations into suspected proceeds of illicit narcotic activities.

The proceedings were initiated under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, which deal with the identification and forfeiture of illegally acquired property, subject to the prescribed legal process.

Police Station Khanyar accounted for assets valued at approximately ₹8 crore, including four residential properties and a Volkswagen Polo. The properties are linked to cases registered at the police station in 2016 and 2022, while the vehicle is connected to a case registered in 2025.

At Khanmoh, Police Station Pantha Chowk attached a residential house valued at ₹1.24 crore belonging to Saqib Bashir Bhat alias Sakpal. Police linked him to NDPS cases registered at Pampore, Banihal and Khrew between 2024 and 2026.

Police Station Shalteng froze a two-storeyed residential house with one kanal of land at Panzinara, valued at ₹1.21 crore, in connection with an NDPS case registered in 2023.

At Safakadal, a three-storeyed residential house with an attic, valued at ₹10.15 lakh, was attached in connection with a case registered in 2026 under provisions of the NDPS Act, Arms Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police Station Soura initiated freezing or attachment proceedings against a residential property in Umar Colony-B, Lal Bazar, valued at ₹1.18 crore, excluding the land value. The property is linked to an NDPS case registered in 2025.

Two separate properties in Shah Mohalla, Ahmadnagar, were also covered by the action. One was valued at approximately ₹1 crore and the other at ₹80 lakh, in connection with cases registered at Ahmadnagar. Police said the proceedings were carried out under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, including in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.

Srinagar Police said the action was aimed at targeting the financial gains allegedly generated through drug trafficking, alongside investigation and prosecution in narcotics cases. The department reiterated its commitment to taking legal action against assets suspected to have been acquired through illicit proceeds.

The attachment and freezing proceedings do not, by themselves, establish guilt in the underlying criminal cases, which remain subject to due process of law.
