Srinagar:Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Tuesday said she was unaware of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) notification inviting applications exclusively from Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates for Assistant Professor posts in Islamic Studies, Arabic, Persian and Kashmiri.
Responding to questions from reporters, the Minister admitted that she has not gone through the notification and said she would examine it before commenting in detail.
“I don’t know. I will read the notification,” Itoo said when asked about the recruitment advertisement.
She, however, remarked that the posts were meant for all and said she did not think they had been reserved exclusively for Scheduled Caste candidates.
The Minister’s remarks came despite the JKPSC notification specifically inviting applications only from Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates for the advertised Assistant Professor posts in Islamic Studies, Arabic, Persian and Kashmiri.
The notification has triggered debate in academic circles and among aspirants, with several candidates questioning the reservation of teaching posts in subjects traditionally associated with specific linguistic and cultural studies. [KNT]
