Spain secured their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final with a 2-0 victory over France in the first semi-final, reaching the tournament’s showpiece match for the first time in 16 years.
France’s star forward Kylian Mbappé, who had scored eight goals during the tournament, was unable to find the net despite several attempts as Spain’s defense kept the French attack under control.
Spain started the match aggressively and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal converted a penalty, registering his fifth goal of the World Cup. Pedro Porro doubled Spain’s advantage in the 58th minute with a superb finish to seal a comfortable victory.
The result sends Spain into their first World Cup final since 2010, while France’s bid to reach a third consecutive World Cup final—after appearances in 2018 and 2022—came to an end.
Spain will face the winner of the second semi-final between Argentina and England in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, with the second semi-final scheduled for Wednesday.
