
Srinagar, July 9,: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday said the Kashmir Division has recorded a 21.63 per cent deficit in seasonal rainfall between June 1 and July 9, while the Jammu Division has registered an overall surplus of 8.07 per cent during the same period.
According to the rainfall data released by the MeT Department, Kashmir Division received 54.34 mm of rainfall against the normal 69.34 mm during the period, resulting in a deficit of 21.63 per cent.
Among the districts of Kashmir, Ganderbal recorded the highest seasonal surplus with 25 per cent above-normal rainfall, followed by Pulwama (21 per cent) and Baramulla (19 per cent). In contrast, Shopian recorded the highest seasonal deficit at 77 per cent, followed by Kulgam (55 per cent), Badgam (45 per cent), Bandipora (43 per cent), Srinagar (41 per cent), Kupwara (23 per cent) and Anantnag (9 per cent).
The Jammu Division, meanwhile, recorded 164.95 mm of rainfall against the normal 152.62 mm, registering an overall surplus of 8.07 per cent.
Among the districts in the Jammu region, Udhampur recorded the highest seasonal surplus of 74 per cent, followed by Samba (81 per cent), Poonch (28 per cent), Jammu (4 per cent), Doda (4 per cent) and Ramban (3 per cent). Seasonal deficits were reported in Kathua (17 per cent), Reasi (22 per cent), Kishtwar (31 per cent) and Rajouri (38 per cent).
The weekly rainfall data for the period from July 3 to July 9 also reflected contrasting trends, with Kashmir Division recording a deficit of 65.54 per cent, while Jammu Division registered a surplus of 28.34 per cent.
The latest rainfall pattern comes amid recent spells of heavy rain that triggered flash floods, landslides and cloudburst-related incidents in several districts of the Jammu region, while large parts of Kashmir continued to witness below-normal precipitation during the ongoing monsoon season.
