No alternative to NH-44, Mughal Road in worse condition: CM Omar

Ramban, Aug 07:  Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday visited various locations along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban and reviewed the ongoing restoration and repair works following disruptions caused by heavy rains.

Speaking to reporters in Ramban, Omar Abdullah, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said there is no alternative to this highway. “I travelled through the Rajouri-Poonch route the day before yesterday, particularly between Peer Ki Gali and Buffliaz. The condition of that stretch is far worse than this,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the damage caused by rains was limited to a small stretch of NH-44, while efforts were underway to ensure that traffic movement remains uninterrupted despite adverse weather conditions.

He also said the administration was aware that it is the fruit season and that people need to transport their produce to markets before it gets damaged.

“Fruit-laden vehicles are being given priority. Petroleum vehicles coming from Jammu are also being prioritised so that there is no shortage of essential supplies,” he said.

He added that he had also held a meeting with NHAI officials in Udhampur and discussed the situation and restoration measures—(KNO)
