Lightning Strike Kills Young Shepherd in Kupwara, Cloudburst Reported in Budgam’s Doodhpathri

Srinagar, August 6: A 25-year-old shepherd was killed after being struck by lightning in the Keran area of Kupwara district, while a cloudburst was reported in the Raiyar-Doodhpathri area of Budgam district following heavy rainfall on Thursday.

A 25-year-old shepherd was killed after being struck by lightning in the remote Gugerdoor area of Keran in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district during the intervening night, officials said on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Sangdan Patti in Warsun, who was grazing and camping with his flock of sheep in the high-altitude pasture when the lightning struck.
Officials said the body was recovered from the spot and shifted to Police Station Keran, where legal formalities were being completed.Police have initiated proceedings in the matter.

Cloudburst Reported in Budgam’s Doodhpathri Area After Heavy Rainfall
A cloudburst was reported in the Raiyar-Doodhpathri area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Thursday following an intense spell of rainfall, officials said.
The sudden weather event triggered a surge in water discharge through local streams, prompting concern among residents in the area. Authorities are monitoring the situation to assess the extent of damage, if any.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage to property. However, officials said assessment teams were being mobilized as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the administration has advised residents and visitors to stay away from nallahs, streams and other vulnerable areas as intermittent heavy rainfall continues across several parts of Kashmir. [KNT]
