Yatra bus overturns in Ganderbal, 31 pilgrims injured, hospitalised

Ganderbal, July 28: At least 31 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were injured after the bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and overturned near Gund in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district during the early hours of Tuesday, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the bus, bearing registration number AR11D-5655, was on its way to the Holy Amarnath Cave Shrine when it met with the accident at the S-Mode stretch in Hariganiwan, leaving 31 passengers injured.

He said a rescue operation was launched by the CRPF, ITBP, Jammu and Kashmir Police and other agencies. All the injured pilgrims were shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kangan for treatment, from where they were later referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment.

“The injured pilgrims are from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi,” the official said, adding that no loss of life was reported in the incident.

Police have taken cognisance of the accident, while the exact cause of the mishap is being ascertained.—(KNO)
