“Threw own MLA under the bus”: NC slams Mehbooba Mufti’s fresh remarks

Srinagar, July 28: National Conference chief spokesperson and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday accused PDP president Mehbooba Mufti of attempting to deflect criticism over her recent remarks by “throwing her own MLA under the bus”, and demanded an unconditional apology from her to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a post on X, Sadiq, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), alleged that Mehbooba Mufti initially sought to shift responsibility for the controversy to PDP leader and MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra before later contradicting him publicly.

“What a weak, selfish, and ungrateful leader. You pushed your own MLA, Waheed, under the bus to clean up the mess created by your own remarks, only to publicly humiliate him when the damage couldn’t be contained. But @parawahid, you can say what she said is also AI,” Sadiq wrote.

He further said there was no ambiguity over her comments and that people across Jammu and Kashmir were “appalled” by her statement.

“There is no ‘if’ or ‘but’ here. People across Jammu & Kashmir were appalled by your statement. The only appropriate response is a clear and unconditional apology to every Kashmiri who was hurt, especially the victims of pellet injuries,” he said.

Sadiq also referred to Mufti’s earlier “Doodh & Toffee” remark, asking her to apologise for that as well.

“And while you’re at it, apologise for your ‘Doodh & Toffee’ remark as well. If today’s statement was merely a slip of the tongue, are you suggesting those remarks reflected your actual position?” he wrote.

He also criticised the PDP’s past alliance with the BJP, saying Mufti should apologise for “bringing them to power in Jammu and Kashmir”.

“Everything else said today was simply an attempt to divert attention from the real issue: your original remarks,” Sadiq said in the post—(KNO)
